Mining

Limestone is one of the raw materials of the cement industry, and is crushed in special machines (Stone crusher) in a continuous production process.

Due to lubrication problems the hammer shaft broke, paralysing the production process and fracturing the lubrication lines of the machinery. This caused a local fire that affected the power supply, control and lighting installations of the process building, from the basement, to the 2nd floor.

After the fire, we had to evaluate the reinforced concrete structure regarding its resistance. Our study showed that the structure was technically repairable and did not require the demolition of civil works, which would mean a considerable saving in business interruption.

Internal damages in the rock crusher were particularly severe in respect of couplings, bearings, carcasses and shafts.
